EREC and its members, the European renewable energy industry and research associations welcome the public debate on hydrogen but would like to strongly emphasise that hydrogen is not a primary energy resource and that it is not inherently clean. Hydrogen is only as clean as the technologies producing the hydrogen.

EREC’s Position on the Framework Directive for Renewable Energy Sources

EREC and its members, believe that the future Directive on the promotion of renewable energy sources is key to reaching the 20% renewable energy target set out by the Heads of State in spring 2007. Before the Commission presents a draft of this directive, the industry wants to outline the basic needs and recommendations for the content of such a directive.

The announced European Framework Directive on renewable energy sources

In January 2007 the Commission issued a Communication on a Renewable Energy Road Map within a comprehensive Energy Package. This Communication aims at promoting the development of renewable energy sources in the European Energy mix, setting a target of 20% share of renewables in the EU's energy mix by 2020.
