IP PERFORMANCE FINAL BROCHURE
Date: December 2009
This brochure provides an overview of the main outcomes of the European Integrated Project (IP) PERFORMANCE. The project, funded through the 6th Framework Programme (FP6) of the European Commission, has been carried out by 27 partners representing the most experienced companies, research institutes and universities in Europe.
This document highlights the key results of the different subprojects that were undertaken in the project. These include industry recommendation for indoor power measurement and energy rating of photovoltaic modules, monitoring guidelines for optimizing PV systems power output; energy yield modeling and service lifetime assessment for PV modules. Furthermore, building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) issues are also covered.
During the 4 years of the projects, a series of workshops and conference have taken place in order to increase the interaction with the industry; an overview of those events is given including links to all presentations.
The results of the project are direct input into standardization processes on European and international level and therefore a list of the relevant standards which have been defined or updated by the project is included. The brochure concludes with an overview of the scientific papers that were submitted within the scope of the project.

Spain and Germany set the pace for the world photovoltaic market in 2008, which grew to more than twice its 2007 size. The European Union continued to drive photocell installation with an additional 4592.3 MWp in 2008, or 151.6% growth over 2007.
However, European growth prospects for the photovoltaic market in 2009 being dampened by the global financial crisis and the scheduled slow-down of the Spanish market.

A New Scheme For The Promotion Of Renewable Energies In Developing Countries
Date: May 2008
The Working Group 4-Developing Countries was created within the framework of the European Photovoltaic (PV) Technology Platform. This group promotes the use of PV, in combination with other renewable energies, as a suitable and cost effective option to provide sustainable access to electricity in the developing world and to help fight poverty and climate change.

Photovoltaic Energy Barometer 2008
Date: April 2008
Thanks to a German market at its peak associated with the rise in importance of the Spanish and Italian markets, the European Union established a new record for photovoltaic installations. According to first estimates, 1 541.2 MWp were installed in 2007 (+57% with respect to 2006), bringing total EU installed capacity up 4 689.5 MWp.

PV Status Report 2007
Date: November 2007
IES has published the "Photovoltaics Status Report 2007", which gives an overview about the current activities regarding Research, Manufacturing and Market Implementation.
One of the key tasks of the JRC is to provide relevant, validated and reliable information to decision-makers and the public. Within this scope the Scientific-Technical Reference System on Renewable Energy and Energy End-use Efficiency of the Renewable Energies Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability works on the assessment of renewable energy technologies and has compiled the "Photovoltaics Status Report 2007".

Trends in Photovoltaic applications 2007
Date: August 2007
The IEA PVPS Programme is pleased to present the twelfth edition of the international survey report on Trends in Photovoltaic Applications. There has been a substantial market growth in 2006, with an ongoing trend in grid-connected applications. The total installed capacity in IEA PVPS member countries has reached 5,7 GW by the end of 2006.

The European photovoltaic market once again reached the heights in 2006, thanks to the dynamism of the German market. According to the first estimates available, supplementary capacity installed in 2006 could amount to 1 245.7MWp, permitting total EU capacity to largely exceed 3000 MWp. White Paper objectives have thus been fulfilled four years ahead of schedule. The European photovoltaic sector remains, however, very heterogeneous, with both an ultra-dominant German market (estimated at 1 150MWp in 2006) and other countries of the EU that vary from a few kWp to a few dozen MWp.

The European market showed all of its strength and soundness in 2005. Nearly 645 MWp of solar cells were installed in the countries of the European Union vs. 546 MWp in 2004 (+ 18.2%). This growth could have been even greater if the market had not been continually curbed by a lack of raw materials. Germany remained the leading photovoltaic market in the world in 2005, positioned far ahead of Japan and the USA, with more than 600 MWp installed. This unabashed success inspired both Spain and Italy, which set up conditions in order to rapidly develop their photovoltaic sectors.

Attitudes towards Energy
Date: January 2006
After the oil crisis of 1973 and 1979, energy policy could count on regular supplies and relatively stable prices. The situation has recently become extremely different with a much tighter energy market and significantly higher and more volatile prices. The Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs recently declared1 that “under our business as usual scenario, almost 70% of the Energy the European Union uses will be imported by 2030. Energy demand will rise by 1% to 2% per year and the share of fossil fuels in our energy supply could rise to almost 90% substantially increasing greenhouse emissions”.

In January 2006, 11 renewable energy associations moved to the new Renewable Energy House, located in Rue d’Arlon 63-65. The Renewable Energy House is much more than an office for the leading renewable energy industry, trade and research associations: it is a model showcase on how to integrate renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in a monument-protected building in an urban environment.

Solar photovoltaic sector growth materialised once again in the European Union. With 410.5 MWp installed during 2004, total capacity is now established at mote than 1 GWp, i.e. 69.2% growth with respect to 2003. For the first time, Germany became world market leader in 2004, ahead of Japan, with 363 MWp installed in one year. In spite of this remarkable expansion, the willpower of certain European countries is tending to weaken.
