With the issue of the new ‘Conto Energia’ the Italian PV market rose to a cumulative capacity of 430 MW at the end of 2008, 338 MW of which was installed in 2008 alone.
Currently the market sectors in Italy are private customers and commercial customers. Of less relevance are the agricultural and public customers. However as many large-sized plants are currently planned in Italy, their share is expected to increase in the future. The strongest market segment in 2010 will be commercial customers realising medium to large rooftop plants.
Under the present FiT scheme valid until the end of 2010, EPIA expects continuous growth of the Italian PV market. In the Policy-Driven scenario, EPIA anticipates the Italian PV market to reach the GW scale by 2011, assuming that the administrative procedures will be harmonised at regional level, that the net-metering will have a strong impact on the demand for PV systems and that the new FiT will have no cap limitation and will remain consistent with the existing one.
