IRENA - International Renewable Energy Agency
An International Renewable Energy Agency was launched in January 2009. This represents a major chapter in the history of the renewable energy sector. The Agency will be an intergovernmental organisation, aimed at promoting renewable energy worldwide and composed of approximately 180 staff people. Its initial funding will amount to 25 million euros with the objective of increasing it to 80 million euros at a later stage. The location of its headquarters is not yet known.
“The main work of IRENA will be to advise its members on creating the right frameworks, building capacity, and improving financing and the transfer of technology and know-how for renewable energies”.
