RoHS: Restriction on the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment

Background:

The so-called RoHS Directive bans the use of certain heavy metals and brominated flame retardants in electrical and electronic equipment. The Directive was adopted in 2002 and then a recast was approved in 2011 (2011/65/EU). Photovoltaic panels are excluded from the scope of this piece of legislation.
