28 May 2015, Brussels - Today the members of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) voted to re-brand the organisation as SolarPower Europe. With 100% of the vote in favour of the change, CEO James Watson proudly commented:
‘This is a true endorsement of a new era in the rapid evolution of solar power in Europe. Our organisation has reached 30 years of age and the nature of our sector has fundamentally changed from where we were back then. The new brand reflects the growth and expansion of the scope of our organisation.’
27 April 2015, Shanghai - Speaking at the 9th SNEC International Photovoltaic Power Generation Conference & Exhibition in Shanghai today, EPIA President Oliver Schaefer outlined the new position of EPIA on the solar modules and cells trade case between China and the EU.
Schaefer stated that 'EPIA is a strong supporter of free and fair trade and we would like to see trade relations between Europe and China, on solar modules and cells, return to normal undistorted, fair trade as soon as possible, when the duties and respective price undertaking expire in 2015.'
20 March 2015, Brussels - Following the discussions of the European Council on the Energy Union last night, EPIA’s Chief Policy Officer Frauke Thies commented:
“EU leaders have given their green light for an adaptation of the European electricity market design, as well as the necessary regulation to remove barriers for renewables. This is only a first step towards an Energy Union that puts renewables like solar power at its heart, but it is a step in the right direction.”
25 February 2015, Brussels - Commenting on today’s Communication on the Energy Union Strategy, EPIA’s President Oliver Schäfer said: “All five dimensions the Commission has defined for the Energy Union require a clear solution: Europe needs to put renewables like solar power at the heart of its energy policy.”
Frauke Thies, EPIA’s Policy Director added: “Now the Commission should follow up words with action. Europe needs an adapted energy market that boosts rather than hampers the energy transition and empowers consumers to access and control affordable, clean and secure energy.”
10 February 2015, Brussels - EPIA announced today that Bruce Douglas is joining its leadership team as the Chief Operating Officer. This further reinforces the new leadership team in EPIA, following last week's announcement that Photon’s former co-founder Michael Schmela joined EPIA as an Executive Advisor. Douglas begins his tenure on 23 February.
2 February 2015, Brussels - EPIA announced today that Michael Schmela is joining its leadership team as an Executive Adviser, working closely with the Board and CEO. Schmela begins his tenure on 2 February.
