conference "buildings for the future"

6 May 2010, Brussels, Belgium

The energy performance of buildings through a smart combination of renewable energy and energy efficiency

The recently adopted Energy & Climate Package sets ambitious targets. The building sector is a key area to look into as buildings are responsible for over 40% of our energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Buildings are on one hand a big consumer of energy and on the other hand offer a great potential for energy saving measures as well as for energy generation with renewable energy sources.

Organised by EREC (European Renewable Energy Council) in collaboration with AEBIOM (European Biomass Association), EGEC (European Geothermal Energy Council), EPIA and ESTIF (European Solar Thermal Industry Association), the “Buildings for the future” conference provided a unique opportunity for the sharing of ideas, for discussion and for interaction between the Renewable Energy Industry and the buildings sector. Only a coordinated and strong commitment from all concerned parties will pave the way for an innovative vision on the future of buildings in order to bring down their energy footprint.

The programme was articulated around:

  • EU policy framework related to the energy performance of buildings
  • State-of-the-art of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions for existing as well as new buildings
  • EU outlook towards energy-smart buildings
