What is the future for the Thin Film Industry by 2020?

EPIA organised for the 2nd year, its International Thin Film Conference on the 12 November 2009 in Munich, Germany. This edition of the conference gathered 260 photovoltaic professionals, confirming the need for a platform for discussion within the Thin Film Industry and related stakeholders. This year’s edition was the occasion to present the state-of-the-art PV Thin Film sector and to offer an excellent opportunity to network with Thin Film’s most knowledgeable experts.

The 2nd EPIA International Thin Film Conference focused on the SET For 2020 Report and its results regarding Thin Film Industry deployment. Conducted by EPIA with the strategic management consultancy A.T. Kearney, SET For 2020 outlines how photovoltaics can become a mainstream energy supplier in Europe by 2020.

Findings of the report were addressed through high level presentations giving different point of views (PV Industry, equipment and material suppliers):

• Equipment supply and production capacities vs. expected demand
• Potential of Thin Film technologies for cost reduction
• Materials and energy needs until 2020
• Most promising markets for Thin Film
• Potential bottlenecks and their evolution for the Thin Film sector.

The conference also provided an insight into global market trends, the latest technological achievements in the sector and a full analysis of the whole value chain.
