Workshop on Solar Silicon Specifications

3 July 2009, Frankfurt, Germany

Organised within the frame of the SEMI-EPIA Photovoltaic Technical Standards Committee, the workshop aimed at discussing, among the most relevant actors in the solar silicon business, the need to develop a specific standard on Solar Grade Silicon.

Discussions, co-chaired by Dr Aulich from PV Crystalox Solar PLC and Dr Fabry from Wacker Polysilicon, focused on the following topics: solar grade vs. electronic grade silicon, silicon from gas phase vs. silicon from purified MG-Si, analytical tools and measurement techniques, solar grade specifications vs. solar cell efficiencies, etc.

Participation to the workshop was upon invitation only.

Based on the workshop results, a task force could be formed under the EPIA-SEMI Standards Technical Committee in order to develop such standard/technical specifications for the PV industry.
