5th European Photovoltaic Industry Forum : 3 september 2008

INTRODUCTION

“Towards a 3rd Industrial Revolution led by Europe and how solar photovoltaic electricity can be part of it”

For the 5th occasion, EPIA organised, in collaboration with WIP, the European Photovoltaic Industry forum on Wednesday 3rd September as an official event of the 23rd EU PVSEC. This year, the forum focused on how Europe can lead the 3rd Industry Revolution and how solar photovoltaic electricity can be part of this revolution.

The Forum was split into four main sessions:

• Demand Side – Market development
• Production Side
• Path to Grid Parity
• Towards a 3rd Industrial Revolution

This year a special guest, Jeremy Rifkin, concluded the forum by introducing the concept of a Third Industry Revolution. Jeremy Rifkin is President of the Foundation on Economic Trends (www.foet.org), author of 17 best-selling books and key advisor to the European Union on issues related to the economy, climate change, energy security, and sustainable development.
